Who is AES?

The Association for Social Education (AES) is a non-governmental organization, born from the desire of a few young debaters to contribute to the development of this activity in Romania, as well as to get involved in other projects related to civic education. With this in mind, their goal was to educate young students in an authentic democratic spirit, so that the next generation would be a more tolerant one. AES is a grass-roots initiative, coming from young people with a desire to help others alike.

Throughout the 9 years that passed since the start of the organization, AES has involved hundreds of students, if not more, in its activities, as well as approximately 30 active members that participate directly in the decision making process and in implementing the promotional strategies, the fund-raising ones and in the organization of our events.

Each year, the Association for Social Education participates through its representative members in a series of national and international competitions. Each time, the excellent preparation of AES’s debaters was proven through the various awards they have won. Additionally, the Association for Social Education plays a very important role in supporting and encouraging the community for academic debates in Romania through organizing numerous national debating trainings and organizing competitions open for every debate club in the country.

Moreover, the experience gained as a member of the AES debate club represented a strong starting point for the ex-debaters in their future careers. Therefore, at the moment, some of them are already employed in important positions at different companies, or are continuing their studies abroad. In what their personal development is concerned, the debating activity played an important part in the acknowledgement and the improvement of their skills and qualities. In addition, the youth involved in this community gained, due to debating, persuasion and argumentation skills, as well as communication and team work aptitudes.

These are all qualities of utmost importance for students, in order for them to gain a competitive advantage with certainty. This will help them differentiate themselves, something that is becoming more and more difficult nowadays, having to face an economic environment more and more unstable.
